Brand New versus Refurbished

Everyone wants brand-new equipment, but the reality is that ROI for new equipment is generally very poor due to high acquisition cost on one hand and relatively low patient-charge for use of the equipment on the other.

Three good reasons why second hand equipment are wiser investments:

Firstly, they are “fit-for-budget”: second hand equipment typically cost only 10 to 30% of brand-new, hence big savings and higher ROI.

Secondly, they are “fit-for-purpose”: second hand equipment generally meet target market (patient) expectations and use technology that can be economically supported and maintained locally.  

Thirdly, buying second-hand equipment enables your capital to go much further. In other words, you can buy a lot more equipment given a certain budget. Look at the following example.
